Sewing since the age of 7, she learned from her mother and aunt who worked as seamstresses in factories in the United States and in Puerto Rico for over 50 years.  She loves to make all of her "dress" clothes, and frequently makes things for others to use on special occasions.  After retiring from the Philadelphia Department of Welfare she wanted to get back into her favorite activity- sewing.  She came to Steve's as a customer to buy her dream machine and was transformed into an employee and teacher.  She now teaches club our monthly sewing club.  She  has also been sewing mummers costumes for the Murray Comics Sometimes Mummers group for the past 3 years.  She enjoys sharing her knowledge of sewing and patterns with Steve's customers,  especially the kids that are the future seamstresses.

Quilting

Gail

Watching a master seamstress at work—her mother— she started sewing as a small child. The first quilt Gail worked on happened to be her mother’s last quilt. Gail served as President of Valley Forge Homestead Quilt Guild; and used to use her vacation time (from her Civil Engineering job) to help at Steves booth at quilt shows. Gail is now at Steves full time and teaches classes regularly. She has also been QVC’s “quilting expert” and appeared on air periodically to provide insights about quilts.

Christine Fackler

March 7, 1967 - June 15, 2022

It is with great sadness that we are letting our sewing friends know that our dear friend and co-worker Christine Fackler passed away suddenly on Wednesday June 15th.  Christine worked here for over 13 years.  She was loved by all of us at Steve's and certainly by all of you whom she helped over the years with your embroidery, sewing, and long arm quilting needs. We often wondered how such a big heart could fit inside such a skinny person.

We do not have any further information about the family's plans going forward. Until further information is available, if you would like to send a card to the family you may send it to the store marked to the attention of the Fackler Family.  We will make sure her daughters receive it.  Please do not call the store for information. We will publish more details as they become available.
