Edge to Edge Quilting

Service Description

Learn to use your embroidery machine to quilt continuously for a well finished look to your quilt. Using a Crib or Lap sized quilt, this method will help you quickly understand how to do any size quilt easily. Join us for this fun and informative class to bring a new level of embroidery to your machine. Cut your backing fabric much larger (8 or 10 inches) on all four sides. The batting needs to be 4 inches larger in all dimensions. Supplies Pick up your copy of “Edge to Edge Quilting on Your Embroidery Machine” by Amelie Scott - included in your class price and on reserve in the hold bin. Embroidery machine with a magnetic hoop that can accommodate at least a 6” x 10” design file (the bigger the better). Magna hoop to fit your machine (If you don’t have one, Steve’s will order you one, but it will take up to 2 weeks, so plan ahead.) Transparent stabilizer (I use No Show Mesh) Quilting foot for your machine Quilter’s safety pins Pencil and paper Calculator Scissors Measuring tape Large quilt ruler Removable marker that contrasts with your quilt top Thread for quilting Before the first class 1. Pick up your copy of “Edge to Edge Quilting on Your Embroidery Machine” by Amelie Scott (It is reserved for you in the hold bin and pre-paid). 2. Read over the general hints and tips and overview (pp 2 – 4) 3. Look over the quilting designs (pp 15 – 19) and choose the design you want to use. 4. Go to ameliescott.com/my-account and follow the instructions inside the back cover of your book. 5. Transfer your chosen design to a USB stick making sure that you transfer both the “A” and “B” files. 6. Load both file into your embroidery machine 7. Sandwich your quilt and pin the 3 layers in place. Week One In the first class we will: 1. Make the templates and mark the center of the quilt. 2. Measure the length and width of the quilt and calculate the number of repeats needed. 3. Set up the machine and quilt the first “A” and “B” columns. Week Two This week we will quilt out to the end of the first set of designs and learn how to stich the last design in the column. If time permits, we will flip the quilt and start the second side. Week Three This week we will finish the second side of the quilt and talk about finishing your masterpiece.
