About the event
Pamela’s Serger Class – Finishing Touch Topper
Wear this versatile and classic style everywhere! As a robe, it is beautiful and comfy. As a topper, it can take any plain ensemble and make it into a showstopper. And the best part? It can be completed completely on the serger. You will want to make this for yourself and as gifts – for men and women!
The kimono style features a front band, tie belt, drop shoulder, and your choice of a plain or gathered sleeve cuff. 4-thread seaming, secured ends, differential feed gathering, unique straight hemming, rolled hemming, and belt points will all be shown – skills that will translate handily into future projects!
This class is a sew-along! You will do your pattern prep work, cut your fabric, get your serger ready, and sew along with Pamela.
Supply List
Be sure to give yourself enough time to print, assemble, and cut fabric prior to the class!

You can order this pattern as PDF digital, paper pattern, or both.

This pattern has a very generous ease. I have made it for myself and for my customer Deb, using our high bust measurement to pick the size. We are different sizes, and in both cases, I ended up taking them in (they were easy to take in!). My suggestion would be to pick one size smaller than your high bust measurement if you are looking for the open-front topper version, but not for the robe version.
Trace/cut your pattern to the desired size and length.
Fabric
Choose a lightweight woven fabric for this project. It could be a sheer, silky, or something more opaque. Rayon, poly, cotton, silk are good choices. If the fabric is super slinky and you are leery of cutting and sewing, I have a handy guide for stabilizing your fabric.

Pre-wash or stabilize the fabric.
Yardage – purchase the amount listed in the pattern instructions and add ½ yard for bands and belt.
Cutting
Cut out the front, back, and sleeve from The Sylvia Robe pattern (do not cut the band pattern piece).
Band – Cut two 4.5” strips of fabric from WOF (width of fabric)
Belt – Cut two 6” strips of fabric from WOF
If you would like the ruffle sleeve (optional) – cut one 7” -9” strip of fabric from WOF
Serger Set-Up
Set the serger for a 4-thread serge with a blending or matching thread color. The threads will not show on the right side of the kimono.
Bring
Basic sewing supplies including something to turn a tube (I use a Fasturn Tool, but a large safety pin works too!
