Draping is the art of sculpting fabric on a form three dimensionally to create a garment design—very popular with the aspiring sewing/designer and a coveted sewing technique. Class begins with an extensive talk on measuring, the basics of draping, fabric preparation, and guidelines for starting the fabric sculpting process. All techniques are used daily in Joi’s fashion design studio and she shares her real life techniques and uses for draping. Class begins with students developing 5 basic garment sloper shapes. As students become more comfortable with draping skills, design variations are demonstrated and practiced. Students also learn how to modify patterns for various sizes using Joi’s real life measuring techniques. Kit included in price, and consists of: a professional-quality half-scale form, fabric design tape, bag, tape measure, handouts and more. (Lunch included)
Designer Joi is an award-winning Designer, published author, educator, pattern designer, stylist, and expert in fitting. She has a Degree in Fashion Design from Iowa State University and provides a variety of services to clients throughout the US.
